Good/Bad/Fab

The wonderful Erica at Mommy's Still Fabulous is hosting her first link up for Good/Bad/Fab and I thought I'd join in because I have no other ideas about what to write about I love a good meme.

Anyway, it's my job to blog about the Good/Bad/Fab of the week. Here it is:

The Good
Our Disneyland annual passes are finally free from blackout dates and we celebrated with new friends on Monday. I went with an old friend I know from high school and her two adorable little girls. They are huge Disney fans and really know the ends and outs of the park. Her suggestion was to hit Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel first for breakfast and then head over to the park. Jackpot! My kid was in heaven because she got an up close and personal meet-and-greet with Snow White, Jasmine, Baloo from The Jungle Book, and did the twist with Goofy! It was the best $40 spent the whole day!

The Bad
My 80 year old Grandma had a stroke early in the week. Her and I don't have much of a relationship these days and haven't spoken to each other in nearly ten years. It's a complicated. I do wish her a speedy recovery so she can celebrate her 81st birthday next month.

The Fab
Team McLovin reached our fundraising goal this morning with a $3,882.00 donation from Marina Auto Body! What a windfall too! This generous donation has previously been given to another team who participates in the Komen Race for the Cure . Fortunately, for my team, that other team isn't walking this year. So, Team McLovin is the happy recipient!

I'm Running this B*tch!! Maybe.

Sunday, September 26th is the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Newport Beach. This is the second year that I've organized a team. It's a fun day with friends and family and is truly inspirational to see so many breast cancer survivors. I'm really looking forward to it!

Last year, I had hoped to run (ha ha ha ha ha! me? run? ha ha ha!). I attempted a training program but aborted the mission quickly after having had surgery to remove my portable catheter (for chemo, not for pee). Anyhow, I used that as my excuse to stop training.

Though this year, my husband has encouraged me to train again. And how can I say no? He completed his first marathon this year. I can manage a 5K, right?

After reading about the amazing @amberpagewrites and her completion of the From Couch to 5K training program, I decided to give it a whirl!

Posing before my first "run" (er, jog...er, I'm walking longer than actually jogging but I'm trying!). And damn, does my ass hurt!

"McLovin the Ta-Ta's Since 2009"

Sunday, September 27th nearly 30,000 people gathered in Newport Beach for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. It was a foggy morning at the beach and though it started out a little rocky for this trio - a parking snafu - we managed to put those frustrations aside and celebrate life with family and friends!

Team McLovin definitely represented at this year's Komen race! Some of us ran, most of us walked. Some even cheated and took a short cut! One even posted her best time ever! I loved seeing the team out on the course wearing their "We Are McLovin" t-shirts and hearing the Master of Ceremonies announce "Here comes Team McLovin!"

It was important to me to experience the Survivor Parade and Tribute before our race. My fellow survivor, Beth, told me it might be emotional and it certainly was. In our pink survivor shirts, we were lead through a cheering crowd and spilled out onto the steps of the Pacific Life building. There we sat, shoulder to shoulder, looking out at those who care for and love us. I found myself overwhelmed at the sea of people there to show their support. My eyes filled with tears when I spotted my husband with our daughter as he tried to point me out in the blur of pink. I saw the brightest smile fill her face and I knew she had found me. I made a silly face and waved back. I was a proud momma and I hoped she was just as proud of me.

Me, my bundle of inspiration, and my friend and fellow survivor, Beth

Treats in the Survivor Tent before the race starts.

One of my biggest cheerleaders.

Headed toward the finish line with my Dad.

Showing off my shout-out to the wonderful and fabulous YSC Trickers!

I am most proud to report that Team McLovin raised over $3,000 for the
Susan G. Komen foundation!
Until next year...
