I'm in desperate need of some decorating ideas! I have these two buffet tables that need some love. And by love, I mean accessories!
I'm a failure at accessorizing. Not only the house but myself too (that's for another post). The problem is...I know what I like but for some reason I am LOST when it comes to the house.
I can always find something from Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel, but I love the whimsy stuff from Anthropologie and from Ballard Designs and want to incorporate those kinds of things too. Plus, I need functionality - think iPhone charging station, from Red Envelope.
This table sit in our entry way. My husband comes home each night and hooks up his Blackberry and iPhone (yes, two phones: one for work, one for personal use) and throws his belongings in one of the drawers. What you can't see is that the phone charger cords are wrapped around those candle stick holders so they don't slip off the table each time he unhooks his phones. This also is home to most of the junk mail, folded laundry, shoes, you name it.
I'd like to maybe change the mirror out. Something larger hanging vertically because I have the wall space. Or ace the mirror all together and put something else there. BUT WHAT? The sconces have to go. As do the candle sticks. And the phone chargers.
I want something welcoming. Something pretty. Something that won't get too dusty and won't break in the hands of a toddler.
This buffet is in our dining room. I wanted to dress the top with family photos - old and new. You can't see the detail on that framed photo but it's totally from Christmas. And could everything in my house be any more brown? I'd like to go forward with a variety of framed photos but from where and of what material? I don't want wood frames...too much brown!
Now I'm thinking maybe I should do the whole framed photo thing on the entryway table and make the one in the dining room more of a traditional buffet with a decorative platter, water pitcher, etc.
What do you think? Seen any good decorating blogs with ideas I can copy in my own home?

I like the idea of water pitch.. maybe like milk glass bowls, platers and pitchers in the dining room. it can help lighten the brown up.. also in the front. You can put a cite decorative wooden box with a top, drill some holes in the back to put the cords thr so they can stay plugged in & hubby will still have the convience of putting his thigns therte. just undercover.. lol and add some frames around it. different sizes of 5x7's, 4x6's and 3x4's ... black & whites would look great with some mixed textured frames ! can't wait to see what you come up with.
Thanks Pink! Love the idea of the secret box!
I like the idea of changing the mirror replacing it with a bigger mirror and hung length wise. first hang existing length wise to see how much larger you want. yes remove the scones. Pictures with all different frames non wood would look great Marshall's has great varity. Marshall's is always a good place to look for mirrors cheaper than other retail take your mother in law on Tues and get a senior discount. On the large buffet I would like to see beautiful green plant or and orchid garden along with a varity of stoneware like you said pitcher for sure and a nice platter, or even a Pitcher with martini glasses.
I think we ALL have a place in our home like this!
You should team up with "In My Own Style" to complete a look... coast to coast! Tell her I sent you :)
For the cord mess, you could get something like one of these - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00213AICY/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001EBDIQW&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1N989G1B5V2XM00P2TCZ
There are tons of kinds of them out there...
For the frames - I say go to Goodwill and go to town... I think it would be cute to get all sorts of frames. And if they aren't the color you want, you could paint them... Plus, they'd be dirt cheap there...
