I Need Your Help...Accessorizing!

I'm in desperate need of some decorating ideas! I have these two buffet tables that need some love. And by love, I mean accessories!

I'm a failure at accessorizing. Not only the house but myself too (that's for another post). The problem is...I know what I like but for some reason I am LOST when it comes to the house.

I can always find something from Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel, but I love the whimsy stuff from Anthropologie and from Ballard Designs and want to incorporate those kinds of things too. Plus, I need functionality - think iPhone charging station, from Red Envelope.

This table sit in our entry way. My husband comes home each night and hooks up his Blackberry and iPhone (yes, two phones: one for work, one for personal use) and throws his belongings in one of the drawers. What you can't see is that the phone charger cords are wrapped around those candle stick holders so they don't slip off the table each time he unhooks his phones. This also is home to most of the junk mail, folded laundry, shoes, you name it.

I'd like to maybe change the mirror out. Something larger hanging vertically because I have the wall space. Or ace the mirror all together and put something else there. BUT WHAT? The sconces have to go. As do the candle sticks. And the phone chargers.

I want something welcoming. Something pretty. Something that won't get too dusty and won't break in the hands of a toddler.

This buffet is in our dining room. I wanted to dress the top with family photos - old and new. You can't see the detail on that framed photo but it's totally from Christmas. And could everything in my house be any more brown? I'd like to go forward with a variety of framed photos but from where and of what material? I don't want wood frames...too much brown!

Now I'm thinking maybe I should do the whole framed photo thing on the entryway table and make the one in the dining room more of a traditional buffet with a decorative platter, water pitcher, etc.

What do you think? Seen any good decorating blogs with ideas I can copy in my own home?
