Do You Believe in Karma?

I am the owner of my karma.
I inherit my karma.
I am born of my karma.
I am related to my karma.
I live supported by my karma.
Whatever karma I create, whether good or evil, that I shall inherit.
Anguttara Nikaya V.57 - Upajjhatthana Sutta

A couple of weeks ago I was thumbing threw some file folders and came across one stuffed with return address labels. You know what I'm talking about...you usually get them free in the mail from organizations like the ASPCA and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. If you are like me, you throw them in a drawer and toss the request for a donation. Then I came across a set of beautiful pink and brown ones from the Susan G. Komen For the Cure organization and I might of let out an audible gasp!

See, I always felt kind of guilty for using these labels and not giving a donation in return. And now in my twisted, messed-up view of "why me?" I wondered if karma had bit me in the butt. Had I "inherited" this disease because I took and didn't give back? Who knows? Call it karma, superstition, or stupidity but you know I'm writing a check out for the Komen, ASPCA, and St. Jude organizations right after I post this!
