A Night of Pretending

A few weeks back, I wrote about being nominated for a 2010 "You've Just Been Spotted" blog award and last Monday the girls at Just Spotted threw a bash at Pretend City to celebrate and announce the winners.

As predicted, Like My Baby did not win for best personal/family blog. I will be honest though, I did let myself daydream about winning. Standing up on the Pretend City stage, holding my mason jar filled with gum balls, and saying something, like, "Wow. I'm shocked. You really like me?"

Nope. It didn't happen.

The event was pretty fun. A private party at Pretend city, yummy cookies and cupcakes, and a raffle with some great prizes (ahem...lost again...ahem). The place was filled with local OC bloggers and a lot of kids. I dragged the Accountant and he and Miss Thing played while I worked on stalking the famous bloggers in the room. Seriously.

Right when I walked in, I saw Angry Julie Monday helping at the registration table. I wanted to say "OMG! It's Angry Julie!" but I stayed contained. So contained, I didn't say hi or even make eye contact. I just pretended I didn't know who she was. Lame.

My IRL ("in real life") friend and former co-worker, Kelly, from Mental Garbage.

Thank God, Kelly from Mental Garbage, was there to meet me and we giggled like school girls about seeing Angry Julie and her Angry Kid. Then, I saw Kristen Howerton from Rage Against the Minivan and her family - the same family featured on The View. I was completely blogger star-struck! I was also completely frozen in fear! I turned from a pretty social gal to an awkward thirteen year old who had never been to a party before. So lame.

For the most part of the evening, Kelly and I stuck together and I failed at making any kind of connections - blogging or otherwise.

When I got home, I tweeted about being a wallflower at the party. I'm certain I scared off Mommypants and Momfluential with my pathetic tweets!

The Accountant tried to make me feel better by saying that I got my "blogger feet wet." True, I guess. But, if I want to make this blog something more, I really needed to jump full on in!

Were you at the Just Spotted party at Pretend City? Did you make any new friends? Miss out on meeting anyone? Tell me I wasn't alone!
